Things to consider
- Knob, lever, or deadlock prep?
- Most locks/latches for new commercial construction will be levers
- If lever, need model # or use universal “Turtle” prep
- Location ? (or locations – if 2 or more preps)
- Standard prep is Gov’t 161 with 2 3/4″ backset
Red flags
- Most levers use thru-bolts which require additional holes in the face of the door
- Most deadlocks will not cover thru-bolt hole preps
- 2 preps located less than 6 1/2″ apart (center to center) will require prep modification
