Things to Consider
- An open back strike is used at pairs of doors only
- Used primarily with mortise panic (active) x vertical rod panic (inactive)
- Active leaf must latch into inactive leaf via latch (161, mortise, mortise panic, etc…)
- Allows both leaves of a pair to operate independently without a coordinator
Red Flags
- Will not operate if an astragal is present on either door leaf
- Not for use with any type flush or surface bolts
- Could be electric – check template
- Each door must have hardware that will allow it to swing independently
- Strike requires cut out on door edge and push side face of door that can weaken a hemmed or folded edge door
