Frame Construction Options
Profile, depth, and backbend options that determine how your frame integrates with the wall construction, finished surfaces, and architectural details around it.
Frame construction options define the physical relationship between the frame and the wall. Getting these right ensures the frame fits correctly, looks right with the finished wall, and meets the fire rating and structural requirements of your opening.

Standard Profile
The most common frame face profile — 2" face with a 5/8" stop. Used in the majority of commercial applications.

Wide-Face Profile
Extended face width for added visual presence — used in higher-design and institutional applications.

Frame Depth Options
Available in depths from 4-7/8" to 14" to match wall thickness. Custom depths available.

Backbend Options
Backbend depth determines the frame reveal and engagement with the finished wall surface.

Closed Soffit
Continuous steel soffit fills the void between frame and wall — provides a clean, finished appearance.

Open Soffit
No soffit plate — used when the wall construction fills the void or when the frame is installed in a finished wall.
Hardware Preps
Factory-installed hardware preparations — hinges, strikes, closers, EPT, flushbolts, and more at ANSI/BHMA locations.
Fire Rating Label
UL/WHI fire-resistance certification for 20, 45, 60, 90 minute, and 3-hour rated frame assemblies.
Bullet Resistant Label
UL 752 ballistic protection certification for bullet resistant frame assemblies.
Drywall Single Rabbet
Standard frame profile for single door openings in drywall partition walls.
Drywall Double Rabbet
Dual rabbet for paired doors sharing a common center jamb in drywall walls.
Drywall Double Egress
Opposing rabbets for paired doors swinging in opposite directions in drywall.
Drywall Cased Opening
No rabbet — hollow metal surround for openings without doors in drywall.
Masonry Single Rabbet
Standard profile for single doors in CMU and brick masonry walls.
Masonry Double Rabbet
Dual rabbet for paired doors in masonry walls with embedded anchors.
Masonry Double Egress
Opposing rabbets for bidirectional paired doors in masonry walls.
Masonry Cased Opening
Hollow metal surround for openings without doors in masonry walls.
No-Return Profile
Flat edge at wall face — no backbend return. For thin wall conditions.
Corner Post Profiles
Two frames share a common corner jamb at 90-degree intersections.
Specialty Profiles
Custom face widths, stops, throat depths, and backbends to your specifications.
Continuous Weld
Fully welded corners ground smooth for seamless appearance and maximum strength.
Face Weld
Welded on visible face only, ground smooth. Standard for most commercial applications.
KD Drywall
Three-piece snap-together system. Ships flat, no welding required in field.
KD to Weld
Ships as KD for flat transport, field-welded at corners for welded frame performance.
4-Inch Head
Extended 4-inch frame head for floor closers and overhead hardware clearance.
Removable Mullion
Removable for full-width access. Secured by flushbolts, 90-minute fire-rated option.
Multiple Opening
Continuous assembly for 2+ adjacent door openings with shared mullion members.
