Door Construction Options

Edge treatments, seam types, core options, and end cap configurations that affect how your door looks, performs, and integrates with its frame.

Understanding door construction options helps you specify the right product for your application. These choices affect the door's appearance at the edge, the seam between face sheets, and the internal structure that determines strength and fire performance.

Edge Options

Butted, hemmed, and beveled edge profiles — each with different aesthetics and performance characteristics at the door edge.

Seam Options

Seamed (visible top and bottom seams) and seamless/Bondo edge treatments — each appropriate for different applications and finishes.

End Caps

Inverted and flush top and bottom channel end cap configurations for different aesthetic and functional requirements.

Core Options

Honeycomb, polystyrene, polyurethane, and mineral board cores — selected based on fire rating, thermal, and structural requirements.

Bevel & Undercut

1/8" for every 2" bevel on lock edge (7/32" overall on 1 3/4" door); undercut options from 3/4" to 2" for clearance above flooring.

Face Sheet Gauges

20, 18, 16, and 14 GA face sheet options — heavier gauge for high-traffic or impact-prone openings.

Cold Rolled Steel

Standard material for doors and frames. Available 16 GA (standard), 14 GA, and 12 GA with baked-on grey primer.

Galvannealed (A60)

Zinc-iron alloy coating for corrosion resistance. Standard on embossed panel doors; matte, paintable surface.

Galvanized (G90)

Hot-dip galvanized zinc coating for maximum corrosion protection in wet or harsh environments. Non-stock item.

Stainless Steel

12–18 GA stainless steel doors with stainless hardware reinforcements. Flush or with light/louvers; must specify handing.

Primer Finish

Factory-applied baked-on grey primer, 1–2 mils thick. Compatible with most commercial topcoat paint systems.

Hardware Preps

Factory-applied hardware preparations — hinges, locks, closers, exit devices, flush bolts, pivots, and more for precise installation.

Labels

Code-required labels — fire, smoke, temperature rise, wind/storm, bullet-resistant, and manufacturer mark labels for hollow metal doors.
