Receiving Shipments

You've done the work on the front end, ensuring the correct product is specified and ordered. The material shipped on time and has just arrived at the final destination. Now what?

We've compiled a list of helpful tips for receiving shipments.

  • Don't let the freight carrier rush you to sign before you inspect the shipment. Inspect the packaging for visible damage. If possible, open the packaging to check for concealed damage. You should be given 10 to 20 minutes to inspect the shipment.
  • If carrier hassles you and insists on leaving before things are handled to your satisfaction, call the trucking company immediately.
  • Call HMF Express at 1-866-452-1845 if you have any questions or if the carrier is not "playing fair".

What to do if there is damage...

  • If there is substantial damage to all the material, refuse the entire shipment and call us ASAP.
  • If damage is minimal and you can repair and still use the material, accept the shipment but sign for it as damaged.
  • If only some of the material is damaged, you can accept the non-damaged product and refuse what is damaged. A lot of carriers will tell you that you cannot accept a partial shipment, but this is not true.
  • If you find concealed damage after the carrier has departed, call the carrier immediately then call us. Take photos of material and packaging. Do not alter or throw away material or packaging or move the shipment.
  • Per the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, the entity having physical custody of the material is responsible for filing the claim. Click here for NMFTA's full policy.

If you ever have questions pertaining to freight, claims, carriers, POD's, etc., contact Kathy Pergel in our office; she's the "Queen of Customer Service"! E-mail kpergel@hmfexpress.com or call 1-866-452-1845 x 35.

HMF Express stands behind the packaging of our product. Click here to see photos of our packaging - if the material you receive arrives unbanded or without shrink wrap, the carrier has likely damaged the material.

One customer that recently toured our facility said, "This is one of the most impressive Shipping Departments I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them." You, our customer, are our # 1 priority, from start to finish!
